SmartDisk Issued U.S. Patent for Award-Winning FlashTrax™

Fort Myers FL, 12/4/2003 –SmartDisk Corporation announced today that on December 2, 2003 the U.S. Patent Office issued Patent No. 6,658,202 entitled “Portable data transfer and mass storage device for removable memory modules.” This patent covers SmartDisk’s award-winning FlashTrax multimedia storage product and a wide range of similar devices.

“This patent provides strong intellectual property protection of our FlashTrax product and reinforces SmartDisk’s leadership in digital image storage technology.'' said Michael S. Battaglia, President and Chief Executive Officer of SmartDisk.

FlashTrax is a palm-sized multimedia storage device integrating a hard drive, flash reader, LCD, and USB connectivity. FlashTrax safely stores high-resolution images transferred from any flash memory card onto the built-in hard drive and displays them on a 3.5” LCD. A user can change the image, zoom in, zoom out and pan, or choose a slide show function without the assistance of a PC. In addition to rapid JPEG view and zoom, FlashTrax can display most RAW format files using the JPEG data typically embedded in such files. Images may be viewed on the LCD screen or on any TV using the included remote control. FlashTrax includes a built-in MP3 player and also supports video playback of motion picture JPEG files, a format typically used for the short “movies” supported by many digital still cameras. With USB 2.0 transfer speeds of up to 480MBps, FlashTrax can also serve as an external hard drive to transfer, store and access data or act as a simple backup device.
